Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests
| UNION TRIBUNE ARTICLE IN BRIEF
August 23, 2002 Victims of sexual abuse by clergy invited to open meeting Monday An open meeting for victims of sexual abuse by clergy will be held Monday night and will feature an attorney nationally known for representing these kinds of misconduct lawsuits. The purpose "is to inform victims of clergy abuse, regardless of religious denomination, of new options available to them as a result of recent changes in civil law," according to Mark Brooks, of the San Diego chapter of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, which is hosting the meeting. At the meeting will be Jeffrey Anderson, a Minnesota lawyer whose most recent cases include a racketeering lawsuit filed in May accusing Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony of protecting a child-molesting priest. Brooks said a San Diego County deputy district attorney also is expected to be available to talk with interested individuals. The meeting is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Scottish Rite Center, 1895 Camino del Rio South, in Mission Valley.
